Surface Texture and Edge Tolerances

Surface texture tolerances have changed very rapidly in recent years, and all of the current standards have been changed since 1996. This course brings delegates up-to-date with the use of the machining symbol, and the current system of annotation for specifying surface texture requirements to BS EN ISO 1302, as well as running through some of the more important parameters that can be used.

In addition, the course covers two areas of tolerancing that are rarely utilized; the surface imperfection parameters in BS EN ISO 8785, which may be of use to those manufacturing composite components, and the specifications ‘for edges of unidentified shape’ in BS ISO 13715, which provide a system for defining the amount of ‘burring’ or ‘blunting’ that is permitted on ‘unbroken’ edges (i.e. edges without radii or chamfers).
